I really liked your essay. I think the other important point from the Tao is having faith despite what we perceive or attempt to understand. Any attempts to control or contend with things can lead to misery.
In that sense there is a cruelty we must recognise, that if you build houses in places that are at risk of flooding then it's natural you will get flooded one day and perish. As tragic as this can be we can't expect salvation from deus ex machina when facing the forces of nature & the best we can do is empower ourselves and each other.
We know the rules deep down, and we should abide by them, or our lives will be painful. This is the ultimate point of religion.
